The health formula
I don’t know if you have heard of Mindvalley. They do an audio program in which they have read hundreds and hundreds of books in fields such as
– health and well being
– spiritual growth
– social skills
– happiness and positive living
They have very conveniently read these books and summarised them into 20 minute audio programs, so that you can take an overview of the whole wisdom and condense it into a car journey to work for example. It’s an amazing program and I highly recommend it.
I heard a very interesting formula today. It makes so much sense that it got me excited. In fact I’d go as far as to say that it’s the most powerful, yet simple formula that I’ve ever heard with regards to health. My outlook on food and health has now just taken a leap forward. And so it’s only right that I share this:
The formula is:
H = ND/C
So simple, it’s profound.
Health = Nutritional density/calories.
The author of the book, Joel Furman MD has produced a scale of foods that show how packed with nutrients thay are in comparison to the calories they hold.
Leafy greens for example, like Kale and Spinach score 100. Whereas candy bars score a 0.
I will definitely being going out and buying this book now and taking on more of this wisdom. But even now today when I look at a food I’m thinking, is this nutrient rich yet calorie kind? The book claims that by following this simple formula and eating more of the foods that heal us, benefits include fast and sustained weight loss, reversing chronic disease and lifelong health.
After years of binge drinking, I’m down for some of that mojo! I can’t wait to give this book a good read 🙂
Have a nice day.
Onwards and Upwards!
